Big Book Awakening Step Study Workshop

If you’re tired of carrying a private struggle while trying to look “fine” on the outside, you are not alone. This annual Big Book Awakening (BBA) workshop is a guided, step-by-step study designed to support real spiritual growth and lasting recovery. It is more than a book study… it is an invitation to shift from self-reliance and isolation toward honesty, humility, community, and a deeper connection with a Higher Power.

Who This Workshop Is For

This workshop may be a fit if you:

  • Feel stuck in patterns you cannot break through willpower alone
  • Carry an inner emptiness that success, approval, or distractions never truly fill
  • Have struggled to ask for help, or have tried to do everything on your own
  • Are ready to build a more consistent spiritual foundation for recovery

What to Expect

We walk carefully through the original text of Alcoholics Anonymous and use the BBA process to turn the reading into personal reflection and practical application. This approach is designed to move beyond information and toward experience.

Participants can expect a focused and honest process that looks not only at substances, but also at the fears, beliefs, and patterns that keep people stuck. The tone is supportive and direct… and the goal is real change, not perfection.

This workshop follows the Big Book Awakening (BBA) approach as it is practiced by a fellowship of men and women who have walked this process and found lasting change. Here is a clearer explanation of what that means and how we approach the work:

The BBA Approach

BBA is a fellowship of men and women who have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. This is not our interpretation of the 12 steps, it is done right out of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous page by page line by line turning statements into questions to have a personal experience. This method carries depth and weight and has been done the same way by thousands of us.

We lean heavily on the spiritual solution as outlined in the Big Book. We speak often of the necessity of a growing personal relationship with God as you understand Him. We firmly believe our illness is not only physical and mental but spiritual as well. Recognition of the spiritual malady that drives our restlessness, irritability and discontented feelings is the essence of recovery. We believe this can only be treated with the Power of God.

Whether you are in recovery and struggling to find contentment or are new to recovery and looking for a way out, this process can help you.

“But there is One who has all Power: that one is God. May you find him now!”
Alcoholics Anonymous, page 59

Weekly Commitment

This workshop is a 24-week commitment and requires consistency:

  • One meeting per week with your step guide
  • One meeting per week with the group

We move thoroughly rather than quickly. For example, the workshop may spend 8–9 weeks on Step One to build a strong foundation and support a meaningful “reconstruction” of how you live and recover.

Confidentiality and a Safe Space

This workshop is designed to be a safe, respectful space where participants can be honest and authentic. What is shared in the group stays in the group. If you are ready for a process rooted in vulnerability and trust, you will be welcomed here.

Materials Needed

Resources

These resources are here to support your workshop experience and help you stay organized as you move through the process.

Workshop Materials (BBAWorks.com)

The Big Book Awakening Tools / Step-Work Downloads page is your “materials hub” for the workshop. It lists the two items you will need to purchase separately (the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Big Book Awakening Workbook), and it provides free downloadable PDFs used during the step-work process. You’ll also find step-specific materials (Steps 1–3 questionnaires and guides, plus later-step inventories and worksheets). Some downloads are intended only when you’re instructed to use them, so it helps to follow the print guidance on the page.

BBA Workshop 2025–26 Audio Library

The BBA Workshop 2025–26 recordings are provided as a companion resource for participants and anyone following along. Each session builds on the previous weeks, so it is best to listen in order, especially if you are actively working the steps. Many people use these recordings to revisit key ideas, catch something they missed, or strengthen consistency between meetings. When available, you may also find occasional bonus recordings that provide additional encouragement or clarification. If any content feels personal or sensitive, please treat it with respect and keep it private.
